Nearly 140 alumni and guests celebrated last year's Biennial Rush Medical College Reunion at the University Club of Chicago on Nov. 3, 2007. The event especially honored classes whose years end in a one, two, six or seven. |
A few highlights from the evening:
- Kit Grotelueschen, MD 1980, outgoing alumni association president, spoke on the current state of the alumni association and thanked those alumni who have contributed to The Campaign for Rush University Medical Center, which aims to raise $300 million for Rush University Medical Center, including $70 million for Rush University. The Alumni Association Executive Council has set a campaign fundraising goal of $3 million for RMC alumni, 20 percent of which had been met as of reunion. Grotelueschen also introduced Karen B. Weinstein, MD 1983, as her successor as president.
- Julie Ann Freischlag, MD 1980, (pictured above left with Thomas A. Deutch, MD, provost of Rush University and dean of Rush Medical College) gave the 2007 Distinguished Alumna lecture, "Women in Surgery: Are You Ready for a Woman in Charge?" Download a copy of her presentation here. Freischlag is The William Stewart Halsted Professor, chair of the Department of Surgery and surgeon-in-chief at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
- The James A. Campbell, MD, Alumni Service Award was presented to those esteemed alumni who graduated from Rush Medical College before it closed its doors in 1942. Rush alumnus Thomas Glasscock, MD 1942, accepted the award on behalf of Rush’s early graduates.
